Please Note: If you’re looking for the new serial, “Frostbite”, click here. Thanks!
Hello, Everyone.
“Thirteen Bullets” is over, having run its course. I’ve never been so sad to end one of these before–this was probably the most fun I’ve had serializing a book. It’s also been the best book I’ve ever written, by far. I’d like to think I achieved not just an action horror story with lots of action, but one with a little real horror in it as well.
As usual, I have a lot of people to thank. I couldn’t have done this without Alex, the brains in this outfit (I’m the brawn). My wife Elisabeth was instrumental–not only did she give me an alternate ending to the book, but she also went above and beyond the call of duty at the World Horror Convention.
I’d like to thank John Oakes, my publisher, and Peter Barrett, my publicist, who made it possible for me to get the print version of “Monster Island” off the ground even while I was writing this one.
I would very much like to thank everyone who emailed me or left encouraging comments here or on the forums. Obviously Adrian Padden comes to mind, as well as (in no particular order) Alnjo, Rakie, briangc, Monsterboy, Mendoza, Zombie Hobbit, Mobtek, Donny D, Don across the hall, sunrise089, Marbotty, Geoff, Elsa Neal, Carlos, davidkaye929, Laura M, Digbeta, and so many others. I can’t begin to thank you all enough for sticking around. It has really made all the difference.
I will of course keep writing, and I will keep serializing. Laura Caxton will return… but not right away. My next project will be a story about werewolves, and I plan to begin serialization on Monday, July 31st (technical glitches and other problems notwithstanding). If you want to be notified when the first chapter is up please don’t hesitate to sign up for email updates. I don’t spam, I promise.
If you are on the email notification list currently, but do not wish to receive any future notifications, please send an email to contactmonster AT hotmail DOT com with “UNSUBSCRIBE” in the subject line.
If you’re jonesing for something to read in the meantime, and if you haven’t done so yet, I do urge you to pick up a copy of “Monster Island” in print form. It’s fully revised with an additional chapter, so even if you read it online you’ll find something new. Plus, if you buy it, email me at contactmonster AT hotmail DOT com and request your free eBook of short stories and illustrations by Joel Carroll. Everyone, everywhere, who ever bought a copy of “Monster Island” (the print version) is eligible, so if you already own it but didn’t get the eBook, please drop me a line and tell me so.
Starting in September, “Monster Nation” will be available in print as well. Again, it’s been fully revised and the ending has been beefed up significantly. If you haven’t seen the cover art yet it’s available for viewing in the forum. If you’re interested, please, pre-order it now on Amazon–the more pre-orders I get the more excited you make my publisher (which is a good thing for everybody). There will be another chapbook, with more illustrations–same deal, if you buy a print copy of “Monster Nation” you get the free eBook, regardless of how you bought it, when you bought it, or how much you paid for it.
Alright, enough shameless self-promotion. Thanks, everybody, really. This has been the best year of my life in many ways. I went from being some shlub on the internet to being a successful author. That’s been my dream for as long as I can remember, and all of you made it possible. So until July 31st, this is Dave signing out, with the biggest, goofiest grin plastered across my face.
Frostbite is the start of a new series by David Wellington. You've seen his fresh new takes on zombies and vampires. What will his werewolves be like? What dark secrets await in the Northwest Territories? Find out now in this exciting new novel by the author of Monster Island and 13 Bullets.

*glomp* WE LOVE YOU TOO!!!
see you July 31st then, i’ll go stockpile some shoes for throwing when the cliffhangers start again…
May 30th, 2006 at 2:56 pm
Awe, I got left out of the thanks list. Must’ve been the glass comments.
May 30th, 2006 at 2:57 pm
You’ll always just be some schlub on the internet to me.
May 30th, 2006 at 2:58 pm
No Dave, Thank YOU.
I’ve said it before but it’s folks like you that give hope to anyone who’s ever wandered the stacks at the local Borders and wished for SOMETHING outside the ‘K’ section.
The small press (web-publishing obviously included) works are one of the last resorts for all who despise reality TV, watered-down and/or rehashed horror flicks and all things mass-market.
So again, thank you for being there.

By the way – if we’re on the update list for this will we automatically be on for the 07/31 release?
May 30th, 2006 at 3:04 pm
Congrats, Dave! This has been a fun ride…
Looking forward to the Werewolves story too…will this be in the same world as 13B and the Monster trilogy?
May 30th, 2006 at 3:15 pm
Thanks Dave,
Congratulations on an outstanding year and the completion of an outstanding story. And thanks for continuing to share your stories with us web-folk even though you’ve found success in the land of bookshelves and ink.
And I can’t wait for July 31. I love werewolves, but they are so easy to cheesify. I so often walk away from a werewolf story feeling let down. However, with you at the helm, I have no doubt that this will be a new take on the mythos and that I will have a (…must…avoid..pun) howling good time with it. (Damn…couldn’t resist.)
Thanks again, Dave.

Hurray!
Bannerman and Arkeley get to fight WEREWOLVES!
May 30th, 2006 at 3:34 pm
Thank YOU, Dave. Especially for being such a cool author. I can’t wait to see how you handle werewolves. I know it will be great.

Until the 31st, take care of you and yours
Laura M
PS: Im curious about JackT’s question too, if we’re on the update list for this will we automatically be on for your next release? Thanks! : )

Werewolves woohoo
May 30th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
So thats it.. 13 Bullets is gone. I feel a bit sad too, this is an unique experience, and i know i dont want it to end.
Werewolves, huh? Now this will be a challenge, as i never liked them. I remember thinking the same about vampires, though.
I will be here. Cya guys.
May 30th, 2006 at 4:12 pm
Hey, everybody, thanks.
If you are on the mailing list now, you will receive a notification July 31st of the first chapter of the new book. If you do not wish to receive said email, please email me with “UNSUBSCRIBE” in the subject line.
Digbeta: I always leave off somebody important, and get to feel like a jerk afterwards. This time it was you. I’ll fix it in just a second. And believe me, the glass comments were as welcome as any others–I need to know when something I wrote feels false to you or anybody else.
May 30th, 2006 at 4:14 pm

*Sniffle* bye Dave…except now we have a forum which makes it not as bad as months of re-reading the last novels and downloading copious amounts of pornographic material. David its been a great pleasure being with you through all this and as you said this is your best novel to date, and as others have said when i heard vampire i went “balls” but i was knocked down and fingered with surprise at how amazing the genre can be when David and not a retard director is at the helm. I cant wait…July 31st…Today’s the 30th…TWO MONTHS!?!?! Dave come on man what am i supposed to do now? WORK!?!?
im sorry but wow two months…ok…eh…we’ve done this before…
Thanks for the mention, see digbeta bitches dont get mentioned, bet you wish glass hadn’t appeared in the comments, huh…huh…HUH??!!
eh med’s where are my med’s?
Guys lets rally like a bunch of Klan guys at a good ol’ lynching, like communist’s at a good ol’ rich guy burning, like a…eh…me running to the fridge for snacks! we need to make Nation the biggest success EVER!…after flushing toilets and the internet of course.
Come on chap’s and chappettes, get idea storming and we can do this…except Digbeta, we need team players…=P dig, you know i jest
(no-one talk to digbeta ssshh)
May 30th, 2006 at 5:24 pm
Thanks again Dave for a great series and a very interesting ending…the vamp ducks and covers. Now that’s a new one.
I still would have liked to have seen Arkeley semi-triumphant at the end, though – say if he followed her right back to the coffin and, realizing she wasn’t going to go for it, sat down on the coffin and laughed, for the first time that Caxton ever sees.
I think guys like Arkeley are a little eternal, or should be – stern, inviolate, forbidding, scary, like a cliff hanging over dark water. And he, the eternal keeper of Malvern – a reverse Prometheus, robbing her day in and day out of her freedom. (Maybe he’s Cerebus? Whatever.)
Maybe I just want the bad guys punished? Well, why not?
All the best, Dave, sorry about the whiny critique and good luck with the werewolf story!

Dave – as always, great news. I will have to stock up on my supply of silver bullets or maybe I only need 13 silver bullets. LOL. Anyway, I have been following you since Monster Island and you still scare the crap out of me. The Vampire mythos is shot to hell now and I just put crosses up on all my doors and windows. What could you possibly do to Werewolves. Let’s wait and see.
Thanks again for everything

Thank you Dave for all your work. I’ve been addicted since the first chapter and you’ve never let me down.
I bought Island and promote you whenever I can, but I owe you alot more.
May 30th, 2006 at 10:57 pm
…sniff sniff….I promised myself I wouldn’t cry…
But seriously, Awesomeness. WEREWOLVES! WOOT! I can’t wait for that. Dave, so far you’ve had original writing for all of the different types of horror figures you’ve written about; you made me like vampires, and your spin on zombies was too cool for words. I simply can’t wait. Actually, this is pretty convenient for me. I just started summer school today (Boo chemistry!), and it ends on July 31st. Also, its pretty close to my birthday, so its almost like you’re starting this book just for my birthday! Enough fantasies….
Thanks for everything Dave.

See you in July Dave. You should do a signing tour man, head over to Del’s store in Burbank.
May 31st, 2006 at 2:27 am
Werewolves ehh, sounds interesting. I had never ventured outside the zombie genre within the horror universe (Steven King excepted), but Dave made vampires the most interesting thing happening for 5 months, so I have little doubt he’ll be able to do the same thing for werewolves. See you in July.

I was just givin’ ya sh!t Dave.
I still want a book tour out of you though. Preferably at a bar. I’m not allowed to drink beer in Barnes and Noble anymore.
Gotta stop in Rockford, IL.

What’s this? Dave coming to LA?
Geoff
June 1st, 2006 at 12:00 am
I think you misread that as Houston.
June 1st, 2006 at 5:40 am
Great ending to a great book. I used to think that nothing new could be done with vampires; I’ve been proven wrong. Good show.
June 1st, 2006 at 2:33 pm
Dave,
You da man. ‘Nuff said. Well, maybe not. Thank you for making my MWF a lot more tolerable. You’ve had me hooked ever since you had Gary eat Dead Kev from ATZ all the way back in Monster Island. Not to use a trite expression, but what a long strange trip it’s been.
I can’t wait to see where you take us with the whole lycanthropy scene. I imagine the Wellington take on werewolves will most certainly be riveting. 7/31 seems mighty far away right now.
Congratulations on the completion of 13B as well as the publishing of MN. As I said before, you da man.
June 1st, 2006 at 5:34 pm
Oh well. Assumed Burbank CA.

Hello, folks, and thanks again.
As of now my next scheduled public appearance will be at NukeCon in October. You can check out http://www.davidwellington.net to see all that kind of news and info, and I’m on the forum as well.
I spoke with Del, who is one half of Dark Delicacies in Burbank, at the World Horror Convention. Great guy, a real pillar of the horror community. I would love to do a signing/reading/etc there, and hopefully will get a chance before too long, but for now there is nothing confirmed.
